Today's story is all about the time when Adam and Eve was driven out of the garden. This includes how God talked to them and gave the due penalty for their sins and then later on, sending them out of the garden to labor.

Text: Genesis 3:8-24

Gen 3:8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Gen 3:9 But the LORD God called to the man and said to him, "Where are you?"
Gen 3:10 And he said, "I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself."
Gen 3:11 He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?"
Gen 3:12 The man said, "The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate."
Gen 3:13 Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this that you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."
Gen 3:14 The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.
Gen 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."
Gen 3:16 To the woman he said, "I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you."
Gen 3:17 And to Adam he said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;
Gen 3:18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.
Gen 3:19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
Gen 3:20 The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
Gen 3:21 And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
Gen 3:22 Then the LORD God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever--"
Gen 3:23 therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.
Gen 3:24 He drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.

Stories are really great source of godly virtues. They are not only for kids but also for adults. See below and see how deep are the things that we can learn from the passage. And I hopewe will also love to hear and learn Bible stories.

This is the story when Eve was tempted and share the fruit to her husband. I do hope that you will see more truths than that what I have enumerated below. May I also encourage you to meditate the stories found in the Bible. God bless you all!!!

This monthly column is my gift to you, a faithful servant in ministry. As a co-laborer in Christ, I want to encourage you to care of your own soul, to take time to nurture your relationship with God through spiritual practices. We regularly reflect in this space on how soul-care is critical to long-term ministry success. If you're not growing, if you're not keeping your own soul healthy, it's hard to tend to the souls of others. I sometimes feel like the gal who gets to ring the bell at recess, to give permission for you to play, to rest, to just enjoy God. I pray that refreshment will water your soul, help it to thrive.

There is another type of growth and it comes from serving, from imitating Jesus who took on the nature of servant (see Philippians 2). If that's true and we want to be like God, we have to know what he's like. Throughout the Bible, poets and prophets describe God in this way:

"The Lord is gracious and compassionate; slow to anger, abounding in love." (see Psalm 86:15, 103:8, 145:8, and Joel 2:13).

And the Bible is clear, that God's people are called to be much the same: gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, loving. We know we can't attain God's standard, but with his help, we can do much more than we thought. If that grace flows through us, we can share it with others. If we experience his compassion, we can pass it on.

VBS Graduation

Our VBS 2009 has just finished. We had a pretty good graduation ceremony. We have about 205 enrollees this year, and it is the biggest VBS that we have conducted for the past 3 years. It blessed many students and even parents who have seen our efforts of teaching their children and spending time and money for people that we don't know. And this has been a good testimony as we are just starting our ministry here in Tambulilid.

Please see the actual video below while we are having our graduation:

Simply The Story, An Effective Tool For Your Ministry

I have attended a training recently called “Simply The Story” or otherwise known as the STS. The program teaches us on how to effectively use stories in the Bible in evangelism, sermon, Bible studies, and even in discipleships. The program “seems to be simple” and yes it is, but it is hard to work out especially for the first timers.

We have been hearing so many Bible stories in our lifetime especially those who were born in a Christian family. Guess what, almost all of us thought that Bible stories are only for kids.

We used to attend worship services during Sundays and we used to hear our pastors quote a synopsis of Bible stories in their illustrations. In here, it is totally different. We will be using stories to witness and evangelize adult people. Knowing the right way of telling Bible stories, I assure you that it can really create an impact in the life of a person.

To be honest, I really never thought that stories can do so much in comparison to the Epistles. But now, my eyes were opened that 80% of the Bible itself was written in story form. And such has its purpose.
