OVERSEER or OVERLORD? By Augusto Y. Hermosilla

This laid down Christ’s pattern for servant-leadership after His own pattern of servant-leadership for His beloved called-out church to follow and fit, as being taken out from the darkness of the oppressive world’s systems. He emphasized humble leadership devoid of ambitions that usually characterize leadership in the world’s systems. In context, He said these very important words to rebuke the myopic selfish ambitions of some of His disciples that made His other disciples indignant. He taught His disciples to be unlike the unbelievers who can be so ambitious to lord over others, and they were supposed to not do so similarly. Greatness in His kingdom should not come from rulership over others, usually over the weaker, nor exercising autocratic nor authoritarian authority to assert dominance over others, but through humble, willing, and loving service to others. Selfless service, not rulership, should be the goal of those wanting to lead in His church. Highly esteemed leadership in His kingdom is through humble service, not dominating and subjugating rulership.
In connection, in church polity, there is some kind of confusion or conflict between the principle versus the practice regarding the role of the pastor (or bishop or elder), that whether he should be an overseer or overlord in the church. By definition, the church in the New Testament as used by the Greek-speaking peoples before Christ, refers to an assembly of people, regardless of the nature of the assembly. Israel is considered as His Church in the Old Testament setting. But as Christianity evolved through the centuries, people added their own cultural modifications, as well as introduced their own traditions, which may or may not be sanctioned by the Scriptures, particularly, the New Testament, the guide and constitutional template for His Church consisting of the saved Israelites and Gentiles who put faith in Him now supposedly unified in love to Him and each other.

Is Sola Scriptura (Bible Alone) Biblical?

In one of the blogs that I have been following, there was a question raised; “Where exactly in the Bible that Sola Scriptura appear?”, well I would like to answer this question in a non-debatable way.

Here it is, as far as my study is concern, I haven’t seen that the Bible says, “sola scriptura”. However, you can find lots of passages against “Tradition” and you can see lots of passages in the Bible that tells us to read and study the word of the Lord.

Setting The Borderline for Ecumenism

Ecumenism is simply a movement that promotes cooperation and better understnading among different religious denominations; aimed at universal Christian unity.

Aphorisms

God gives us new mornings to wake us to His unfailing love and mercies. To forget the pains of yesterdays and see the chances the new day brings, to dance, to sing, to love, to live in His graces. It’s His way to remind us that He cares for and loves everyone of us, that He sends us the blessing called Morning.

Praying of the Rosary Is NOT Bible-Based Teaching

Praying The Rosary Is Not Biblical, And Is A Form Of Idolatry

Just last Sunday, a local newspaper paper released an article teaching that the praying of the Holy Rosary is Bible-based. In the first two paragraphs, the writer admittedly says that there is no passage in the Bible teaching nor mentioned about the praying of Rosary.

However, in the following paragraphs, the writer justified the praying of the Rosary basing it on the repetition of historical events of some Bible characters (like Gideon as he mentioned) about Israel’s history.

I don’t know if the writer of this article did some research about the origin of rosary and how it was deeply encouraged for Roman Catholics.

Praying of Rosary was encouraged when Lucia Dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto claimed to have an apparation from an angel teaching them to pray in the spring of 1916. They were asked to pray repeatedly by the angel who appeared to them. This is why the Catholics were convinced that they have to pray repeatedly.

The TRUE Worship and TRUE Worshipers

The TRUE WORSHIP
and TRUE WORSHIPERS

Worship doesn’t begin with skills and techniques, but with a healthy understanding of God and ourselves.

Worship is essentially about our relationship with God our father, through His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

True worship is about loving God, obeying Him and living to the praise of His glory. The more we understand God- his character and the way He works- the more our hearts will rise in adoration.

True worshippers know that their security is in God. They received the Spirit of adoption and cry, “Abba, Father” (a term of loving intimacy between child and father). They can sing with confidence, “He is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”

Before we even analyze worship styles, the role of the worship leader, the place of the musician, and any form of “worship ministry”, we must understand how the true worshipper can live in joy and victory.

Worship ministry must flow from worship hearts. We can lead people only as far as our own experience of God. As the old hymn says:

How Homosexuals Reflects on the Bible

As far as I see the video, this is by far twisting the word of God to FIT their own perspective. By the way, I do not condemn homosexuals for their being hungry of the truths from the Bible and to see that the Bible allows homosexuality because the fact is, the Bible is really against homosexuality.
