Sermon About Propriety In Worship And Lord’s Supper

Propriety In Worship Is Needed In Our Churches

I always believe that we need to be proper in facing God especially if we believe that he is the King of kings and Lord of lords. Honoring God is a valuable thing to learn in the way we speak, act, and even present ourselves before him.

In our world today, younger generations already took for granted what it means to be proper in God’s sight. Many of them just face Him without giving due respect.I hope this sermon will in somehow open the eyes of many especially our young generation.

Propriety In Worship
Text: 1 Corinthians 11

Introduction
Last week, we talked about things that happened to Israelites to be an example for us. And in the evening, we have talked about one of those things, which is idolatry.

Today, we will be talking about testing the Lord in terms of propriety in worship. Many Christians nowadays have already neglected propriety in worship. Today, you will see the young generation who comes in the church lacking some respect in the way they present themselves to God.

It is very important that at younger age, we have to learn how to respect God in every way, even in the way we dress and in the way we look.

A Call For Prayer For Filipinos

Christians Were Also Victims of Typhoon Ondoy

For the last few days of following the news, I could not help but to let tears fall from my eyes seeing my fellow Filipinos suffering from the catastrophic effect of the Typhoon Ondoy. There were already close to 100 death toll and still unknown total numbers of missing people.

We are not talking about remote places, we are talking about the capital city of the Philippines, Manila along with surrounding metro provinces like Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, etc.

Typhoon Ondoy already have damaged about Php95M worth of crops in Calabarzon alone (Inquirer). Hundreds of millions in damaging properties like vehicles, houses, appliances, etc. Thousands were in evacuation areas. Hundreds of people were now getting sick.

My dearest brethrens, I encourage you all to pray for the Filipno people. We are in the midst of crisis.

We have lots of Christian brothers who were also affected by typhoon Ondoy. And worst, there is another typhoon threatening the Philippines within two to three days. Pray that God will intervene on these catastrophic event. May God save the Philippines.

Immediate Follow Up Phase: Precious Promises

Lesson 8: Precious Promises

Conduct small group worship. Be sure to let them lead as much as possible in all aspects of your worship. Make sure you encourage them to be faithful to do their assignments. If you can be strict with them, they can be strict with their disciples later.

The items for accountability are:

Did you read your Bible at least 5 min/day?
Did you listen for God to speak during QT? Have them show journal or share 1 insight from their reading and their obedience to what God showed them.
Did you share the Hand Presentation with at least 3 people? Tell me their names?
Did you share the last teaching/lesson with 5 people? Tell me their names.

Spiritual Emphasis: God has given us many special promises to help us in life.

What if Starbucks Marketed Like a Church? A Parable

I have seen this video in one of the websites of Organic Church people. Very funny, but there are really truths in it. Our Churches are like this and are now out of focus. Our Churches tend to attract people to come in. In contrast to what the Bible say, our churches is suppose to be emphasizing the going out and spreading the gospel.

There is nothing wrong in attracting people to come to Church. In fact, in our contemporary time, I believe that is also important that we will have a presentable Church. But to be imbalance with the emphasis of our programs and giving more weight in attracting people is getting out of focus.

The purpose of Organic Church movement is to go back to the original NT way of worship and being in the Church which I believe is good. However, still we need to be extra careful to not to fall in legalism especially if we are already doing Organic Church since the Bible did not gave us a protocol nor a step by step way of having a Church, and how to worship God. It only presented general things. Furthermore, most practices in NT Church are very applicable for them which might be totally or partially different to what we have now concerning the culture and traditions that we have.

When Small Is Big: The Impact of Love and Good Deeds at Work by J.P. Leo Castillo

Several years ago, some co-workers dropped in without any warning at the weekly small group gathering for Christians in our company. We were pleasantly surprised, of course, and asked what prompted them to join our group. They shared about a Christian co-worker who had been their supervisor for a few months on an assignment in another province in the Philippines. They were amazed by the way this brother conducted himself — he was a person of honesty and integrity, he showed that he cared for his people and he pursued excellence in his work. They also noticed that he had been with our small group before they went together on that assignment and came to the conclusion that there must have been something in what we were doing together that influenced the life of this brother. They came to us because they wanted to be like him. They saw Jesus in and through his life.

When the subject of influencing the world for Christ comes up the first images that flash into the minds of many believers often include Christian celebrities who use their status to affect change, massive evangelism events and big churches with outreach programs. The Lord may use such highly visible means but He often works in many other invisible ways to reveal His Kingdom to a lost world.

We often judge the success of what we are doing by its visibility and size. But somehow God’s economy seems to work differently. Jesus often illustrated influence for His Kingdom using the picture of small seeds falling to the ground or being sown in a field, a lamp on a hillside or grains of salt on a plate of food (Matt. 5:13-16; 13:1-42). Perhaps Jesus is saying that it is in the small deeds of “ordinary” Christians in everyday life more than the big people, the big events and the big programs that He and His Kingdom will be revealed.
