The Soul’s Repose

  • Sharebar

“Return unto your rest, O my soul—for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.”

Psalm 116:7

“Why am I so weary?”

I asked myself one day,

As I went about so frustrated and harried

And anxious in all I did say.

“Yes, why am I so burdened

And uptight on every hand—

Especially when Jesus has promised me rest

If on His Promises I surely would stand?”

Just when it seemed my faith was so weak

And discouragement so increasingly strong,

I heard Jesus’ Voice calling to me,

“You’re going about it oh so wrong.

“Instead of looking at your problems

And the frailty of your faith,

You should be keeping your eyes always on Me

And resting in My tender embrace.

“When you keep your eyes on others,

You’ll always be distressed;

And when you keep looking at yourself,

You’ll always be depressed.

“But by keeping your eyes looking upward

Into My eyes of Love,

You’ll remember what you always should do

By turning your thoughts Above.

“In Me you find your peace-of-mind

And rest from all your cares;

Cast upon Me all that’s troubling you

As you remember I’m always there.”

Yes, in every situation of life

That’s what we always should do:

“Return unto your Rest, O my soul—

For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.”
