It is mid-November and it is now time to prepare for Christmas messages. For some making Christmas sermon series is the way to go. So here are some tips when making Christmas sermon series.

1. Focus on the birth of Christ. Basically, you need to focus on the birth of Christ. So it should be about the coming of the Messiah and Bible stories related to it. Here are some stories related to his birth:

  • Angel notifying Mary and Joseph
  • Mary visited Elizabeth
  • The Magi from the East
  • The Shepherds in the Field
  • Anna Recognizes Jesus

2. Make sure to touch God’s love. The birth of the Messiah is not complete without mentioning the love of God. After all, this is the main message of the Bible and the reason why God sent His only begotten Son.

3. Make it chronological if possible. If you are walking through the Bible and making a series about Jesus’ birth, you might as well consider making it in a chronological order. In this way, the people will be able to follow the story. However, this is not really “a must thing”. It depends on your approach because there are preachers who just want to highlight things surrounding the birth of Jesus.

4. Know the passages in the Bible concerning the birth of Christ. There are lots of passages concerning the birth of Jesus or the coming of the Messiah. Here are some:

  • Matthew 1:18-23
  • Matthew 2
  • Luke 2
  • Isaiah 7:14
  • Isaiah 9:6
  • Isaiah 11:1
  • Isaiah 53:3-7
  • Zechariah 9:9
  • Jeremiah 23:5
  • Micah 5:2

There are more. But it’s now up to you to dig. Knowing these passages, you can actually make a good Christmas sermon series with these.

5. Consult Mr. Google.  There are times when it seems like your ideas are exhausted. So perhaps, now is the time to use the internet. Try searching sermon ideas. Please do note also that most of the sermons found online are “copyright” protected and therefore you cannot use it as it is. And even if you get a sermon manuscript that is free to use, it is always best to edit it and improve it.

Another note is that most sermon manuscripts are NOT free to use simply because it is a written work or maybe part of their book or something that the author is making. So better respect that or you will get into some trouble.
