“Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of His Counsel, confirmed it by an oath—that by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the Hope set before us, which Hope we have as an Anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters into that within the Veil, whither the Forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made a High Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

Hebrews 6:17-20

When He’s our “Uppertaker,” we shall not fear the undertaker or any other forces that may rise up against us.

The Perfect Storm.

That’s what they called the convergence of two fronts and a hurricane on October 27, 1991, off the coast of New Hampshire and Massachusetts.  And, the tragic loss of the Andrea Gale, a swordfishing boat, and her crew on October 29 during that storm later inspired a book and a movie by the same name.

While we may never encounter such a terrible storm at sea and a rogue wave of some 100’-130’ feet that capsized the tiny boat, we know that even now the “Perfect Storm” is brewing in our world.  On every front “storm clouds” are forming and claps of terroristic thundering are echoing throughout every nation.

Failing economies.  Terrorism and the threat of a nuclear holocaust.  Volcanic eruptions and massive earthquakes.  Flooding.  Oil spills.  Fractured families.

Truly, a fulfillment of end-time prophecies (II Thess. 2:1-12; II Tim. 3:1-9; II Pet. 2:1-3:7; Jude 8-16).

But, we need not fear—not when we have “an Anchor of the soul that is both sure and steadfast.”  Hallelujah!

What is this Anchor of Hope?

Why, it’s the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, our Protector (v.18b). . .our Pioneer Scout (v.20a). . . and our Great High Priest (v.20b), Who has “entered into the Heavenly Holy of Holies, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens” (II Cor. 5:1) and even now “ever lives to make intercession for us” (Heb. 7:24-25; Rom. 8:26).  Glory!!

And, this Anchor has “two immutable/unchangeable/unbreakable chains,” which are God’s Person/Character and His Promises/Conduct (Heb. 11:6).  Never forget that “God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which you have shown toward His Name as you minister to the saints and others that you meet” (Heb. 6:10).  He is not forgetful; neither is He unfaithful (I Cor. 10:13; Ps. 73:21-25).

Therefore, press on, Pilgrim (Phil. 3:13-14), confident that “He Who began a good work in you will continue to perform it until the Day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:6).  Even in life’s worst storms, your Anchor will hold because the One Who holds the chains is the same One Who holds you “in the hollow of His Hand from which no one can pluck you” (Jn. 10:28-29).  Amen and amen.
