“But let him that glories glory in this: That he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord, Who exercises loving-kindness, judgment and righteousness in the earth—for in these things I delight, says the Lord.”
Jeremiah 9:24
How quickly our eyes do focus
On the glitz and glitter of earth;
We look to men’s applause, fame and fortune
To help us find our worth.
But none of these can fill the void
That rests within our soul—
For it’s only when we glory in the Lord God alone
That we understand what the prophets of old foretold.
“Glory in this,” the Lord did say
To men of old and now.
“Spend your days in pursuit of knowing Me
Instead of worshipping earth’s sacred cows.
“In Me you’ll find true loving-kindness
And righteous judgment that’s always true—
For I am the God Who gives true wisdom
In all you think, say and do.
“Man’s lofty thoughts are many
And of Me they think so ill;
But, do not listen to their beckoning voices;
Instead, surrender to My sovereign will.
“I delight in those Who seek Me
With every part of their mind and heart;
To those who seek, they’ll surely find Me
And to them Myself I will impart.”
O Lord, how desperately we desire Thee
As we cry from bended knee;
Help us to desire You more than life itself—
For only in You can we truly be free.
Help us not to lust after the treasures of this earth
Or place our trust in them—
For it’s only when we glory in You and You alone
That we’re freed from vain glories and man’s whims.
