Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri resigned yesterday, August 3, 2011. A show of honor and dignity from a politician who accepted his defeat from 2007 election. After the out of court testimony of Lintang Bedol and Zaldy Ampatuan was publicly aired, he finally accepted that there is a huge probability of electoral fraud in the province of Maguindanao in the said elections. This is the video of his resignation:
The electoral fraud in 2007 was very obvious. Even the analysts say that it is pretty much improbable to have 0-12 votes in favor of the senatorial line up of Pres. Arroyo’s political party. However, because of the lack of evidence and testimonials during those times, Sen. Miguel Zubiri sat in the senate.
The main highlight of his resignation is all about his willingness to concede even if the testimonials was not brought to court. His willingness to give up 200 million of pork barrel allocation, and many other privileges as a senator. May this event in our history open the eyes of other politicians that it is not about possessing power, but it’s all about genuine service that is honorable and dignified.
To Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, congratulations! You have gained my respect!
