“Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly nor stands in the way of sinners nor sits in the seat of the scornful—but his delight is in the Law of the Lord and in His Law does he meditate day and night.”
Psalm 1:1-2
Vacation trips to exotic locations
Are exciting and full of thrills;
But none of these can satisfy the longing soul
Like knowing God’s Word and doing His Will.
Neither can much education
Provide us with what we need—
For it’s only by communing with the one true God
That we find true soul-satisfaction indeed.
Although we’re blessed in following Him
And adhering to His dos-and-don’ts,
It’s only by meditating in His precious Word
That we find what our soul does want.
To the hungry, it’s Manna from Heaven;
To the thirsty, living Water from God’s own Well.
And, only by spending time in it each day
Will we know how best on this earth to dwell.
Within the pages of God’s Precious Book
We find His Promises, oh so dear.
And, it’s resting in the assurance of His unfailing Presence
That we find Hope in the midst of fear.
By daily meditating upon and applying
The truths from God’s own Word
Are we able to be like a fruitful tree by the river—
For they’re the greatest we’ve ever heard.
While others will tout man’s wisdom
As evidence of enlightened superiority,
The child of God will know the soul’s greatest delight
Is when we commune with Him on bended knee.
“Help us today to know Your Word,
O Lord, we humbly pray;
For in knowing it we come to know You,
Which is much more precious than words can ever say.”
–Tom Smith
