“Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest unto your souls—for My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
The Invitation is simple; the results are sublime.
“Come unto Me.”
He didn’t say “Come over to My way of thinking or teachings.” Or, “Come do things My Way.” Or, “Come try and model your life after Me.”
No, He said “Come unto Me.”
The One Who knows everything about you, but still loves you. The One Who left the splendors of Heaven and came all the way to earth, knowing ahead of time what awaited Him—just because He loved you. The One Who endured more humiliation. . .mental, emotional, physical and spiritual suffering than we’ll ever know. . .but willingly endured it “for the Joy that was set before Him” (Heb. 12:2). The One Who arose in victory so we could be “more than conquerors through Him” (Rom. 8:37) and one day will come again to take us Home.
He simply says “Come unto Me.”
Just as you are. . .with all your sins and shortcomings. . .your doubts and fears. . .your strong flesh and weak faith (Rom. 7:7-24). . .who’s so “weary in well-doing and faint of mind because of your labors and the burdens that you bear” (Gal. 6:9).
“And I will give you rest.”
Indescribable Peace (Jn. 14:27; Phil. 4:7). Incomparable Joy (Jn. 15:11). Resurrection Life (Jn. 1:12; 10:10; Phil. 4:13). Freedom from guilt (Heb. 9:14; Ps. 102:11-12; Jer. 31:34c). Freedom from fear (II Tim. 1:12). Calm assurance (II Tim. 1:12b; Heb. 6:17- 20).
No pills. No potions. No plans.
Just Me.
You and I together in a beautiful Partnership. . .Our “Communion-Union” (Jn. 15:1-7). . . yoked together at the heart for all eternity.
“I’ll do the leading and pulling. You do the yielding and follow My lead.”
Assuredly, there’ll be some changes you’ll have to make (Lk. 9:23-26). There always are when you’re moving from one place to Another.
“But, don’t worry: I’ll give you the strength and Grace you need to make it down the Homestretch” (Phil. 4:13; II Cor. 12:9-10).
Just trust Me. “Abide in Me” (Jn. 15:1-7). “Walk in My Spirit” (Rom. 8:1). “Keep your eyes fixed on Me” (Heb. 12:1-2).
But, first “Come to Me.” And, then stay “yoked with Me.”
“I’ll do the rest.
“Are you ready to rest?
“Let’s get started.”
