Man can describe love in millions of ways. But the best explanation of what love is would come from its Creator – God. His Word, the Bible, reveals what true love is. It is not how the world today views it–selfish, conditional, rejects the truth. What God wants us to see is that love never changes, nor gets tired, and it is always forgiving and seeks righteousness. His own demonstration and His Word showed us how love should be so that we would understand it. And by doing so, we may be able to love the same way that He did for us. God is Love

God is love itself

1 John 4:8 (ESV)
Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 John 4:16b (NASB)
God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

Nature of God’s Love

1 Chronicles 16:34 (NIV)
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Psalms 36:5 (NIV)
Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

Isaiah 54:10 (NIV)
Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

Psalms 37:28a (NIV)
For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones.

His demonstration of love

Romans 5:8 (NIV)
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

John 3:16 (NIV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 4:9-10 (NIV)
“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”

1 John 3:1 (ESV)
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
