It is one of the awaited life’s events—marriage. It may have been grand or simple, but it is the vow of love to each other under God’s blessing that keeps it together. Sadly, a number of couples today part after some time because of different reasons: difference in priority and expectations, addiction, religious and cultural strains, physical or emotional abuse, and this list goes on. Marriage was meant to be special. It was meant to be enjoyable. It is a partnership that God built starting from Adam and Eve. Let’s see how God wants us to see his beautiful plan for us through marriage. Here’s the 10 Bible verses about marriage
God meant man and woman to be together
Genesis 2:18 (ESV) Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
Genesis 2:23-24 (NIV) The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
God’s stand on separation
1 Corinthians 7:10 (NIV) So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” Matthew 19:6 (NIV)
To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband.
Matthew 19:8 (NIV) Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.
God’s guidelines to make marriages last
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. Ephesians 5:28 (NIV)
Ephesians 5:23-25 (NIV) Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Ephesians 5:33 (NIV) However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
1 Peter 3:7 (NIV) Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
1 Peter 3:1-2 (ESV) Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct.
